In my music diary for the week of December 31, 2007, I posted a track from Hercules and Love Affair titled Blind.

The excerpt from the post was as follows:

3. Blind (feat. Antony Hegarty), Hercules and Love Affair

Now I am not only saying this because I personally know Hercules and Love Affair, but I really think he (Andy) is going to reach a huge level of success in 2008.

This collaboration with Anthony Hegarty is my favorite thing I have heard from him. I read a review that described his work as euphoric disco. I agreed, but I think sadly I find all disco pretty euphoric.

Since December I have been hearing so much talk about Hercules and Love Affair, and on a trip to San Francisco last month I was hearing it everywhere, radio, stores and playing in the home of the new friends I was staying with.

It is time for a bold statement. I am going to predict that Blind is going to be the hit of the summer.

Just saying.

Stream Hercules and Love Affair.

1. Get Away From Me, Best Fwends
2. Everything is Gonna Change, Jean Paul 'El Troglodita'
3. An Ear for Baby, The Thermals
4. Hard Feelings, Constantines
5. The Great Escape, Patrick Watson
6. About To Walk, Throw Me The Statue
A Pillar of Salt, Thermals

The image for this weeks mix is from Google images, search query “The Thermals”.

Download Mix Here

1. Get Away From Me, Best Fwends

I was introduced to this band via Lee Knuttila. LOVE THEM! This band is as annoying as I am. “Get away from me”, is what I assume most people want to say to me.

2. Everything is Gonna Change, Jean Paul 'El Troglodita'

This is an amazing track. If you like soul and psychedelic, don’t miss this one.

3.An Ear for Baby, The Thermals

For the past two weeks I have found myself continually returning to the Thermals album “The Body, The Blood, The Machine”. I think it is the righteous tone of the album that I am into right now.

“Work is freedom, sloth is sin”

I included the following line about getting God on the phone, as that seemed more likely than getting some of my friends on the line last week.

“Good luck getting God on the phone
Good luck getting even a tone”

4. Hard Feelings, Constantines

“Some peoples love isn’t strong enough. We got hard hard hard hard feelings.”

This is one of the songs floating around the music blog scene from the Constantines up coming album Kensington Heights. It gets released tomorrow. I strongly recommend you buy it.

5. The Great Escape, Patrick Watson

I haven’t spent nearly enough time with Polaris prize winning Patrick Watson’s “Close to Paradise”, but this is a song that has managed to stick with me.

Life on the prairies can be hard, overly dramatic and way too personal. I don’t remember who I was talking to, but they said that it seems like people who live on the prairies feel like they have to suffer, like everything has to be hard. I think this is true, I want to blame the climate, the isolation and mouse trap vibe that most small prairie cities have. Some times an escape is needed.

6. About To Walk, Throw Me The Statue

This band is really straight forward, and I can’t really say what it is that I like about them, but I have listened to this albums quite a few times over the past season and really liked it.

7.A Pillar of Salt, Thermals

This is one of my favorite songs on the album. The vocals are so strong. If this man wasn’t singing in the Thermals I feel like he should start preaching. Chuch!

Choice lyrics:

“We were born to sin
We don't think we're special, sir
We know everybody is”

“We don't carry deadweight long
We send them along to heaven”
The show is smart, funny and really put together.

Among my favorite works are the Homo Fantasy Orchestra album art. The song titles on the albums were all gems. Some of my favorite include:

Hating You Later (Tonight)
Preggers (Again)
Thanks For the Add
New Friends, Better Than Old
No Rainchecks in Miami
Let’s F Tonight

The photo here is Conditioner Trajectory, Turner Prize, 2008

Turner Prize will be part of The Infinite Exchange Gallery at 01SJ in June.

This video on the other hand...made me laugh regardless.

You have to watch it until the end for the unexpected plot twist.

It’s like my life.

The results are often very comical.

Today I found out about a program that seems like it was made for me. The program is called JPGTV and it works like this. While your computer is playing music JPGTV runs simultaneously using Yahoo image search to find images related to the music currently playing and plays a slide show for you to watch in time with the sweet tunes. This afternoon Steve was playing some Ladyhawk, and this gem of an image eventually popped up.

I love you the Internet.
